Gallardo's arrival puts pressure on Murcielago prices

The imminent arrival of the new Lamborghini Gallardo is already beginning to affect used values for its bigger brother, the 570bhp Murciélago supercar.

After fetching thousands above its £168,000 list, prices for the V12-engined supercar have been tumbling fast in the past weeks. At the start of the summer a nearly-new example, with around 10,000 miles on the clock, was still around £160,000. Now you should expect to pick the same car up for £130,000 – an eye-watering loss of £10,000 per month.

Independent supercar dealer Tom Hartley isn’t surprised by the Murciélago’s change in fortunes. ‘The Gallardo was always going to affect the Murciélago,’ he said. ‘The bigger car’s values may recover in a couple of months, but I doubt it. We’ve now reached the levels of its real value and it’s looking well- priced – especially as the first examples were changing hands for £195,000.’

The news is good if you are one of the first customers to get your hands on the £125,000 Gallardo and are hoping to turn a quick profit. Hartley is already predicting that the first baby Lambos to hit the market will command a £10k premium.
