The road-legal sum of Mercedes-AMG's expertise in production-based motorsport, the AMG GT R Pro exists for one purpose only: to turn the already rapid GT R into a lap record-smashing track machine.

It might not gain any extra power over the GT R, with 577bhp from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, but a motorsport-inspired suspension overhaul and improved aerodynamics have had a transformative effect. Last year it lapped the Nordschleife in 7min 4.6 seconds, making it one of the fastest front-engined road cars to ever lap the 13-mile Green Hell.

Autocar's Dan Prosser went to Germany's Hockenheim circuit to find out what this limited-run special is like in its natural environment.

No I'd get a racing car

As oppoaed to a heavy sports car with lots of incongruous flaps that are supposed to make a sports car 2 box shape into a blobby racing car.

My 2c

There is NOTHING like GT3(RS), Porsche is the best.

On the other hand, I am big fan of MB GTR. I am very keen on design, inside and out, and on the engine.

I would have both. If I were rich enough to afford taking LOADS of time of and transport these cars to track, the only place where they can shine, on the roads both of them are wasted, given the fact that standard versions are already too much for the roads (911 Carrera, so fast and competent, boring on public road).
